Twitter have announced today that they are giving everyone the chance to receive the sought after blue tick. These so called verified accounts show that the account is official and worth following. It's like an 'authority badge'.
In the past these badges were reserved for celebrities, politicians and the like. It's original use was to help identify genuine celebrity accounts from countless imitators, which soon turned into showcasing high profile users with tweets of a particular interest. No one could apply for this verification label, it was offered by Twitter to anyone deemed worthy, but that has changed as of this week...
Although everyone can now apply to become a verified account, accounts of "public interest" are more likely to be approved. And there are a number of criteria which must be fulfilled in order to be accepted. Luckily this does not mean your account has to have as many followers as Kim Kardashian :)
Is your account worthy of the blue tick? Apply here - only if you are interesting enough though!
Our goal with this update is to help more people find great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for creators and influencers – no matter where they are in the world – to easily connect with a broader audience.
